Roaming in Orange on a prepaid plan. How much do calls cost in Europe?

The days when using mobile services abroad meant very high costs are fortunately gone. Today, prices for calls within the European Union are much lower. Check how much Orange prepaid roaming costs and what the current rates are.

The costs of calls in Orange prepaid roaming — i.e., calls you make while using another network abroad — depend on the zone you are in. Europe is divided into two zones: 1 and 2. Zone 1 includes EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus (Republic of Cyprus), Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Martinique, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Réunion, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Hungary, Italy. Zone 2 includes European countries not listed in Zone 1: Albania, Andorra, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Gibraltar, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man, the Faroe Islands, and other European countries and territories.

Thanks to EU regulations introduced in recent years, the costs of calls made while roaming in Zone 1 have dropped significantly. Receiving incoming calls in Zone 1 countries is free, and for 1 minute of an outgoing call made from Zone 1 to Zone 1 or to Poland you always pay PLN 0.79. The price of SMS/MMS sent from Zone 1 to Zone 1 or to Poland, regardless of the tariff plan (Orange Free prepaid, Always Unlimited, Orange IoT prepaid, Extra Number), is the same and amounts to PLN 0.79.

If you use paid data bundles domestically, you are entitled to a free GB allowance in Orange prepaid roaming, which you can use when connecting to the internet in Zone 1 countries. After you exceed the free GB allowance, the data charge is PLN 0.00672/MB (PLN 6.88/GB). The allowance size depends on the bundle you use:

• Flexible data bundle 1 GB for 1 day — 0.3 GB

• Flexible data bundle 5 GB for 5 days — 1.46 GB

If you don’t use any data bundles, the cost of mobile internet in the European Union (Zone 1) is unified and is PLN 0.79/MB (for main tariffs). Before your trip, check how to enable roaming in Orange prepaid and whether your tariff allows services in the given country.

Countries in Zone 2 are not EU members — therefore charges for calls made there are much higher. For 1 minute of an outgoing call made from Zone 2 to Poland or Zone 1 you pay PLN 4.94, and for 1 minute of an incoming call — PLN 2.02. Charges for incoming and outgoing calls in Zone 2 roaming are billed per started minute. The cost of an SMS sent from Zone 2 is PLN 1.51, and an MMS costs PLN 3.03. The charge for mobile internet usage is PLN 1.51 per 50 kB of data transferred (PLN 31.76 per 1 MB). An accidental internet connection in Zone 2 can be very costly, so consider turning off mobile data during your trip. The listed prices apply throughout Zone 2 — except Russia. The price per minute of an outgoing call made from Russia to Zone 1 or to Poland is PLN 1.46, and the cost per minute of an incoming call is PLN 0.39. An SMS sent from Russia to Zone 1 or to Poland costs PLN 0.44, and an MMS — PLN 3.03. Using mobile internet costs PLN 3.55 per 1 MB of data.
